David Smith is Vice President, Technology and Information Security Officer at PE GI Solutions. He oversees IT Security compliance, training, vulnerability management, incident response and ensuring that both PE GI Solutions and their customer’s data and assets are secure.
David has rich and varied qualifications, gaining a master’s degree in information technology management from Towson University, a master’s degree in healthcare administration informatics from the University of Maryland, alongside a Graduate Certificate in Executive Development from Georgetown University. David’s professional affiliations include CHIME, HIMSS, AEHIS, and ISACA and he is a Certified Healthcare Chief Information Officer (CHCIO) and a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA). His professional accreditations include Project Management and Lean Six Sigma. Additionally, David has also gained qualifications from the Disney Institute in Leadership Excellence, Creativity and Innovation, and Quality Service for Healthcare Professionals. David also has been in the past an adjunct professor at two universities teaching information technology.
David’s Executive career in healthcare information technology began in 2007 as Assistant Vice President for Information Technology at MedStar Health, a multi-hospital system operating ten hospitals and over 120 healthcare related entities. In 2013, he became Chief Information Officer and Chief Information Security Officer for Capital Digestive Care. Following Capital Digestive Care’s partnership with PE GI Solutions in 2019, David took on his current role as Vice President of Technology and Information Security Officer.
David’s hobbies include flying as a licensed private pilot and is currently working toward his Instrument Rating. He also enjoys playing piano, French horn and classical organ. His passion for education has seen him write articles for websites and professional organizations, including the PE GI Journal. He prides himself on creating educational and informative material that is enjoyable and tells a worthwhile story.
